You already know that FibreMax tendons and pendants are lighter, more durable, & more resistant than steel cables. But how much better the FibreMax products are, we will explain to you in this blog.

Category One: Strength-to-weight ratio

FibreMax has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Steel cables have a too high weight causing issues in the world of cranes, renewables energy & many more fields. The increased weight hardens the process of maintenance, removal or build-up. FibreMax, on the other hand, is 85 per cent lighter than steel, making the construction and maintenance more effortless.

Category Two: Fatigue life

FibreMax tendons last up to a minimum of 35 years in the renewable energy sector. Meaning, that cables can keep under water at a depth of up to 60 metres and beyond, last minimum of 35 years without maintenance needed. On the other markets, such as the offshore crane market, FibreMax cables also have a very long fatigue life, whereby the cables last 20 times longer than the crane with more than 750,000 full load cycles.

Steel has a smaller fatigue life due to lower resistance to chemical and outside environmental influences, the cable faces. Steel cables last between 15,000 – 25,000 full load cycles depending on their quality.

Category Three: Low maintenance

FibreMax, as you have just read, is a tendon/pendant with a long fatigue life without, or nearly none, maintenance needs. The products have high resistance against environmental, chemical, and other outside influences, such as tornadoes.

Steel has the disadvantage that it needs much maintenance to the lower resistance against outside influences causing rust and other issues on the cable.

Category Four: integrated end terminations

The unique standard of production of FibreMax cables makes our products even stronger. Our cables are endlessly wound, whereby the end termination is integrated within the cable during the process of creation. The integration of the end terminations leads to an increased and equalised strength of each fibre, as well as a decreased fear of ripping and splicing a cable.

Category Five: Recyclable

The last category, steel cables and FibreMax cables will be compared on, is the recyclability of the products. FibreMax cables are 99 per cent recyclable, whereby the cables can be reused by cutting the fibres and forming them into breaking pedals for the automotive industry. Also, steel cables can be recycled, whereby 80 per cent of the cable can be melted and reused in many diverse industries.

As you can see, FibreMax cables are a strong alternative for steel cables with many advantages compared to the original product.
