The strongest
fibres

FibreMax tension members are defined by the diverse sets of strong fibres they use, and each set is chosen based on several quality criteria. The right fibre is selected based on the application. Aramid is mostly used for onshore crane projects, due to its strong specifications. Dyneema, or HMPE, is the fibre of choice for the renewable energy sector, as well as for structural and special applications. Carbon T-700 is also commonly chosen for other kinds of applications. Our highly skilled and experienced specialists provide our clients with qualified support on the choice of each fibre.

The strongest fibre
Aramid

One of the fibres we use at FibreMax is an aramid made with Twaron® or Technnora®, developed by Teijin Aramid. It has a high modulus, is thermally stable, and can withstand chemical and high general impacts. The use of this fibre provides FibreMax tension members with significant advantages compared with steel-wire, polyester or nylon ropes. Aramid fibres offer the same minimum break load with a smaller diameter and lighter weight.

The benefits:

  • Good strength-to-weight ratio
  • Low creep of 0.20%
  • Good fatigue life
  • Low elongation
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Non-conductive

The lightest fibre
HMPE

Another fibre FibreMax uses is HMPE, a High Modulus Polyethylene fibre invented by DSM Protective Materials called Dyneema®. This fibre offers our clients maximum strength at minimum weight. FibreMax tension members with HMPE are as strong as steel-wire, polyester or nylon ropes, but offer a smaller diameter and significantly lighter weight at minimal break loads.

The benefits:

  • Available in different grades, depending on creep properties
  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • High creep, which should be considered in specific applications
  • Good UV resistance
  • Excellent fatigue life
  • Low elongation
  • Good chemical resistance

The hardest fibre
Carbon

Another fibre used by FibreMax is carbon, due to its significant weight advantages and greater firmness as well as its strength. FibreMax cables made with Carbon T-700 are as strong as steel-wire, polyester and nylon ropes at a remarkably smaller diameter and lighter weight, but with the same minimal break load.

The benefits:

  • Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
  • Zero creep
  • Excellent fatigue life
  • Very low elongation
  • Good chemical resistance
